ABSTRACT
Create a social strategy for Instagram, TikTok, and Threads; one that engages contemporary multifandoms, especially the queer space. The project will adopt a digital style, focus on hot topics, gather authentic fandom opinions, and explore fandom engagement using a macro-ethnographic approach.
Research Questions:
1. How do you interrogate media while appreciating it? How do fans respond to pressure or opportunity?
2. What role does media literacy play in fan interpretation and engagement?
3. How does fandom engagement shift over time as the cycle of media constantly presses forward?
Deliverables:
-
content analysis
-
engagement strategy guide
(Access to these deliverables/documents is limited, as people love to plagiarize. Reach out for further information and to collaborate on further research!)
Outcomes:
After over a year of observing and running experiments in fandom spaces, I was able to confirm 3 major conclusions that fit into a contextual formula for active audiences. These conclusions I call "fandom habits," aka the treatments that engage and garner fandom activity beyond just impressions.

MASTERS THESIS DEFENSE
Research Presentation & Conclusion Discussion
*Click below for full presentation

My thesis presentation and defense took place at the Spark Center at DePaul University. The Strategic Partnerships for the Advancement of Research and Knowledge (SPARK) Center convenes constituents in Chicago who share an interest in solving a contemporary problem. Hosting the event there allowed thrilling conversations and let us explore our work more intimately.

EXHIBIT & SHOWCASE
📍DESIGN MUSEUM OF CHICAGO
As part of my thesis, I was able to showcase my work at the Design Museum of Chicago as part of a showcase on digital media, located downtown. The Design Museum is a relic in the Midwest, used as a pop-up museum to host exhibitions in different venues, and used as a shared space for creation.
My showcase focused on the chaos of opinions in fandom. Key insights about conclusions in my research, and the beauty behind editing in the fandom space.
